Chapter 7 Avoiding Plagiarism

Plagiarism is a very serious crime. It is taking the work of someone else and claiming it as your own. One of the most important things a person can use as a writer is to learn how to cite correctly and use the information by giving credit to the original author. In the beginning paragraph Justin Cone stated that, “Creativity always builds on the past.” This is very true. Many filmmakers have remade and remade movies dating all the way from the 40’s but they always gave the original author credit. This is the same with music artists and writers as well. We learn off of each other. No one man knows everything about the universe this is how we survive.

Plagiarism is still a crime even if the person isn’t aware that they are plagiarizing. This is why it is very important in educational facilities that children of all ages are taught to cite correctly. Many severe consequences are at hand due to plagiarism. A student could be kicked out of school, lose a scholarship, or even end up in prison. In chapter 7 of “Envision” it teaches the reader fundamentals of citing a paper by providing many beneficial examples. It teaches you how to create a works cited page, use in text citations, and gives examples for online sources as well as book sources. I found this chapter to be very beneficial especially with the current argument paper that is due shortly.
