A Midsummer Night's Dream

A Midsummers Night Dream (A Different take)

Many people in the world are familiar with William Shakespeare's plays. Most of his plays are comedies and can be quite hard to follow due to the writing style of the time, and also the fact that Shakespeare liked to make up his own words to describe or call things. Recently, Ball State put on a play of his play, A Midsummer Night's Dream.

I, not being a big fan of Shakespeare was no all that thrilled about going to see it, but I felt I had to because good ol' Jimi was running the sound board for the play. The stage was odd, slanted, and quite simple. The main parts of the stage came from computer graphics and lighting. Which made quite a cool effect. There were a few mess-ups in the performance, but all were taken care of with great ease.

The take on the old play was also quite interesting. The director had incorporated Beatles songs into the play. The songs made the play more comical and maybe even a little easier to understand, although there were a few dance sequences I found were maybe unneeded and not relevant to the story line. Besides the unneeded dancing scenes the music made sense with what was going on in the play. The actors seemed to be enjoying themselves as did the audience. Once again, a play worthy of my ticket money. If Ball State was to put on another Shakespeare play as good as A Midsummer Night's Dream I would totally go see it!

Evil Dead Musical

Evil Dead: The Musical

As usual, a new play meant that Jimi and I went to go it. Evil Dead: The musical was the current one. I went into the play not knowing what to expect. The stage was a simple cabin with a window, a door, a moose head, a door on the floor leading to the cellar, and the little furnishings needed for a cabin the the woods. Apparently the froth seats were "splash zones" because of the huge amount of fake blood used in the play. The play it's self was a take on two movies, The Evil Dead (1981) and Evil Dead 2 (1987). The script for the musical mashed up the two movies and added a big dose of comedy and catchy music to make it a hit.

The musical was presented in a way that made you feel a little uncomfy but just enough for a underlining horror theme. The play, although it contained a lot of horror characteristics was non mistakenly a comedy. The actors brought the stage to life with their singing and acting skills. The crowed took very well to the play and would laugh at the appropriate times and sit silent at others. It seemed that everyone left the theater feeling that the money they spent on tickets was well spent indeed.

After watching the play I felt obligated to watch the two movies the play was based off of. Sadly, the movies just weren't as good as the play. While watching the movies there were times I wished that the cast would start singing catchy songs. Over all though, it was a good movie/musical experience.

Class Observation

During Class on November 17th we had to turn in our second draft of our research argument essay. We did not actually have to turn them in but we need them in class because we were doing peer review. We broke into groups of four or five and took turns reading each person in the group’s paper. We had to mark down what we though they need to fix and what we thought was good about their paper. Most of the class was staying on topic but you could tell that half of the students were just sitting there and not helping their peers with the assignment. Mrs. Evans walked around and made sure that we were doing okay. My group did really good on peer reviewing we all gave each other as much advice we could so that our papers could turn out as good as possible.

Delta Zeta

Joining Delta Zeta was the best decision I have made so far since I have been in college. The girls in DZ are all so diverse, some are preppy and others go to class with sweatpants on everyday. I knew right when I joined that no matter what I was going to fit in with a least one group of girls in DZ. We do so many activities together and it keeps me so busy so that it is very difficult for me to get homesick. Delta Zeta also has helped me so much with my schoolwork. We have to have a certain GPA in order to not be put on academic probation and if we are on academic probation then we have to go to certain amount of study tables a week. Also if I am having a really bad day or am struggling with something I know that no matter what I will have someone there for me. If I would not have joined Delta Zeta I would still probably be sitting in my room by myself everyday eating lunch alone. Now that I am a DZ I have something to do whenever I am bored. I have meet so many new people by joining DZ and I know that I will have life long friendships from joining this amazing organization. I know that when I get married one day I will know exactly who I want as my bridesmaids. Delta Zeta has saved my life and I will never forget the day that I joined.

Rush

At the beginning of the school year I did not really know very many people at Ball State. It was not as easy as I thought to meet people so my dad gave me the idea to join a sorority because his really good friend was in a fraternity and he told my dad that it was a great way for him to meet people. I was very skeptical about joining a sorority because I have never gotten along with girls very well but I was at the point where I was willing to try anything. I turned in my paperwork and went through recruitment. The first day I visited 5 out of the 10 sororities and hated it. I did not feel like I fit in with any of them and I just knew that the sorority life was not for me. I called my mom that night very discouraged but she told me to stick it out because there were still 5 more sororities that I had not seen. The next day I decided to still stick it out and fell in love with three sororities. We then had to put our top ten in order and we would get called back to our top 6 if they wanted us. I ended up getting called back to all 6 of my favorites. At the end of the next day we had to put our top 2 down and if they wanted us they would call us back. I once again got called back to my top two which does not happen very often. We got to spend an hour with each of the sororities and at the end of the day we needed to know our number one choice. I never thought that I would get so emotionally connected with both of the sororities. I had to make a very hard decision of which one I wanted to be in. The next day was bid day and we saw which sorority we were in. We received a card in an envelope that said the one we were in. I received Delta Zeta which was my number one choice. We got to run over to our sorority and they all hugged us with joy it was the best day of college that I had experienced and I knew that I was never going to eat lunch alone again.
