Chapter One Envision

Chapter one of Envision explains how to understand, write, and analyze a rhetorical paper. According to Aristotle, rhetoric is the "ability to discern the available means of persuasion in any given situation". Authors use rhetoric through many things in our everyday life. Some are through pictures, comics, advertisements, websites, and texts.
The first part of the chapter teaches you how to notice the rhetoric in every situation. After the book points out all the situations in everyday life, they tell you how to understand it by analyzing and observing it. While observing the text you have to identify the three parts of rhetoric, who the audience is, who the author is, and what kin of text you will/are using to make a point.
To write a rhetorical analysis paper you start by picking a topic that can be argued and is a persuasive topic. After your topic is picked to make your thesis statement you must observe your text and take notes, after that refine your sentence to make it more specific. Your final thesis sentence should be specific and has supporting evidence to support your argument.
When analyzing the text you are going to write your paper over, you need to make a list of your observations and think about what everything he writes is saying. Next think about who the author is, who he's talking to, and what his argument is. Basically, find his thesis.
Chapter one of Envision was informative and gave plenty of examples to help anyone understand rhetoric.
