Rhetoric influences our lives constantly. It seems like every moment of the day we are forced to make some sort of decision based on the small bit of information we gain from commercials, ads, posters, or flyers. We only notice this type of pressure when it is pointed out to us, and what kind of impact it can have on our lives. We were given the freedom to make our own choices in this country but we never stop and think that the choices that we make are completely our own idea. How can we be for sure that the decision we made was made by us or was influenced by some sort of outside information?

In this generation we are exposed to such media daily. With the technology that is available there are literally millions of ways to influence the younger generation or to persuade them of any type of message. The key to rhetoric is to write in such way that can appeal to any given audience. The approach and how a person would convey a message is the key to persuasion.

When looking at ads, cartoon comics, or movie trailers there are not a lot of words put into them. Many people can receive a more powerful message through image rather than through text. However when you put the two forms together your message can be more heavily understood and interpreted. McCloud demonstrated this concept by stating that we need to develop "greater levels of perception" and to read with a critical eye. Just by scanning the surface of the information isn't beneficial at all. The author needs to recognize his audience needs to find his text visual and verbal in order to be persuasive.
